Jobs For The Boys: The saga of Eric the Unfortunate by Herbie Neil 4.6 Stars (23 Reviews)    Price verified 4 minutes ago

Eric is not your average Careers Officer. Not for him the discussions on the relative merits of a life in architecture versus civil engineering or ophthalmology versus physiotherapy . Quite a few of his clients have already made a start on their careers - in crime. As to the others, they range from boys who failed the selection test to be milkmen, to a girl who wants to embalm corpses. Eric loves it. If only he could manage his own life better. The only career that Eric would swap for would be that of an old blues guitarist, but not being old or black or blind or from the Mississippi delta he is unqualified. Nevertheless he plays his guitar when and where he can in the hope of attracting women. He is marginally more adept at guitar than he is at women, which is to say, not very. Dealing with women is his weakest point. While he struggles to avoid the advances of a predatory older woman, the girl he really wants keeps catching him in embarrassing situations. Worse still, Eric does nothing to encourage her when he stumbles upon a criminal conspiracy and foolishly decides to do the police's job for them. Lurching from one disaster to another in his battered old motor, he digs himself deeper and deeper in trouble with the police, the criminals, and most of all his would be girlfriend. When he finally does dig himself out of trouble, help comes from the most unlikely quarters.

Bank Holiday All-Dayer by Andrew David Barker 3.7 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

England, summer of '96: the height of Britpop, lad culture, and living for the weekend. Anthony Parker and his mates are out on an all-dayer, all pilled up and hitting the town. The sun is shining, the girls are out, and all the pubs are open. Things are going to get messy. Very messy. This short story from Andrew David Barker takes us back to the excess of the 1990s, when hedonism was funded by maxed-out credit cards, and Britain was carried along on a wave of fragile optimism. 'Bank Holiday All-Dayer' is a darkly funny and fierce depiction of England in the mid-90s, when the last Gen Xers came of age and tasted life at full speed.

The Mystery of Briony Lodge: A cunning mashup of Sherlock Holmes and Jerome K. Jerome's THREE MEN IN A BOAT by David Bagchi (Barbican Press) 4.8 Stars (12 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

For three Victorian slackers -- to say nothing of their dog -- becoming Sherlock Holmes's neighbours was very nearly the death of them. In this mash-up of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jerome K. Jerome, their best-loved creations collide chaotically -- with Mrs Hudson, as always, left to pick up the pieces. London, the early 1890s. Jerome and his fox-terrier Montmorency have recently moved to a new set of rooms in Mrs Hudson's establishment in Baker Street. The tenant of the floor below has some anti-social habits, such as working with odiferous chemicals and, when bored, firing a revolver into his ceiling. But at least the rent is low. Jerome and his friends are planning their latest jaunt -- and indulging their favourite pastime of bemoaning the inconveniences of modern nineteenth-century living -- when Miss Briony Lodge calls at Baker Street to ask their help. Who is sending her orange pips? Whoever it is, they are getting closer by the day. When two, more sinister, strangers call, it becomes clear that the beautiful young schoolmistress is in deadly danger. But what match are a bank clerk, a lawyer's assistant, a dog and a novelist for a international gang of desperadoes? None whatsoever. Until Mrs Hudson takes charge...

Cooking With Lovecraft: Supernatural Horror In The Kitchen by Miguel Fliguer 4.3 Stars (17 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

This book is a collection of short Lovecraftian gastronomical stories. It will tickle your weird bone, but will also give you directions to make real, tested, delicious dishes. Sometimes the recipe is just an excuse for the story, sometimes is the other way around, and ocasionally there won't be no recipe at all. Most of the stories are tongue-in-cheek, even outright silly, as an affectionate tribute to Lovecraft and the Mythos; but a couple of tales are a bit different. There are bits -large and small- inspired by Frank Belknap Long, Donald Wandrei, Arthur Machen, Robert Bloch, Robert W. Chambers, Clark Ashton Smith, and Douglas Adams. Table of Contents: - Acknowledgements - Does Cooking Belong In Lovecraft? - Irem Hummus - Baby Shantak Wings - Sausage Deep Ones - Spanakopita - HIFYM - The Uneatable - Anziques Kebab - Bratwurst mit Sauerkraut - False-Meat Vegan Spaghetti - Ghoulash - An Inquiry On The Menu Served At The Palace Of King Nargis-Hei In Sarnath, Upon The Celebration Of The Thousandth Anniversary Of The Destruction Of Ib - Fried Honey-Garlic Chicken Of Tindalos - The History of "De Vermicelli Mysteriis" - Commonplace Cookbook (excerpts) - The Feastival - The 419 Eater - The Horror From The Ice-Cream - Gulab Jamun - Poached Pears in Spiced Vinum Sabbati - The (In)famous Cthulhu Pie - Alfred Jermyn's Banana Bread - Cosmick Fairy Cakes - Post Cibum Bon Appetit !

Hardrock: Crazy Jake's Fish Bomb by L. Bracken (New Flight Books) 4.3 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

When a family looking to escape the corporate pressures and gas shortages of a crowded 1979 Houston makes a break for Hardrock, Colorado -- a tiny town supporting a winter population of less than a dozen -- what could they possibly hope to find? Adventure! And outfitting the neglected Quartz Creek Inn with an operational café, saloon, trading post and motel in preparation for a hectic summer tourist season is where the story of Hardrock begins. Hardrock's pronounced lack of amenities, unforgiving conditions and well-defined, likeable characters set the stage for hilarious situations in a primitive place where people make up the happily out-populated minority. Languishing behind America's modern culture, Hardrock's pace is decidedly slow - some might even say stunted. But, at the end of this county road, life is yours for the shaping. Ex-lawmen and outlaws, hippies, cowboys and mountain men and women all add spice to an eclectic recipe for retro-lunacy. Join the handful of Hardrock locals in the remote wilderness of the Colorado Rockies, where 14,000-foot peaks and the rustic setting of the Quartz Creek Inn conspire to provoke memorable misadventures and might just inspire you to stay. HARDROCK: Crazy Jake's Fish Bomb is a fun, fast-paced and engaging read leaving you wishing your virtual vacation to Hardrock could last a little longer. Sure to bring a smile, Hardrock: Crazy Jake's Fish Bomb is reminiscent of Patrick McManus, Erma Bombeck and Jean Shepherd in reflecting a uniquely humorous sense of time, place and point of view. L. Bracken's original voice creates an authentically rich and imaginative landscape sure to make this book a treasured gift for the outdoor enthusiast in your life or anyone appreciative of simpler times and a closer sense of community.

Hand In The Till: The PG Version (The Derry Women Series/PG Version Book 2) by Gerald Hansen Price verified 17 hours ago

Enjoy this version of the book with a PG rating; the strongest language has been taken out for a gentler reading experience. The original version is also available here on Amazon. "Continued brilliance. The characters will make you laugh and cry and fume while you're reading. Comic Irish writing at its best." Colin Quinn PLEASE NOTE: Although this book is part of the DERRY WOMEN SERIES, there is no cliffhanger. It is true that the characters get older as the series progresses, but each book is a complete story, and can be enjoyed without having read the previous book. Desperate mother of seven, Fionnuala Flood, thinks her new get-rich-quick scheme will pay all the bills, but instead it threatens to tear the family apart forever. The case of bargain bin canned vegetables she bought for the scam contains explosives, not potatoes. And a wilting branch of the defunct IRA will stop at nothing to get it back. Adding to the Fionnuala woes, her two oldest sons are in prison, her husband's hands are fondling more than frozen fish at the packing plant, and her lesbian daughter has just published a book exposing the family's attempts to get their claws into Auntie Ursula Barnett's lottery winnings the year before. Daughter Dymphna, unwed mother, has just been kicked out of her boyfriend's house, adding two more mouths to feed. And worst of all, daughter Siofra's middle school is hosting a multi-denominational talent contest, Fingers Across the Foyle, which is supposed to build harmony, but will pit the Catholic students against their Protestant rivals. Siofra wants to nab the grand prize, a trip to Belfast to meet her idol Miley Cyrus in concert. Fionnuala is having none of it. Will the Semtex explode or will sanity prevail? Throw in bottles of hallucinogenic absinthe, Ursula coming back to town for a showdown, and an old VCR that might change the world, and you have Hand In The Till, a darkly comic look at revenge, retribution and, perhaps, reconciliation.

The '5 to 1' Quiz Book (The '5 to 1' Quiz Book Series) by Leigh Davis (Pro Quiz) 4.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 18 hours ago

The '5 to 1' Quiz Book is written by the quiz website FreePubQuiz.co.uk Our quizzes are never easy, that would just be no fun. In this book we have 130 'what am I?' quizzes to challenge our readers. Can you identify the person, place or object from the five clues given? We've particularly set out to test, challenge and tease you from the first to the fifth entry. Most rounds are about real people but we've thrown in fictional characters, places and even objects to challenge you even further! With quiz-masters particularly in-mind we've added hundreds of additional clues, which will enable you to customize your own '5 to 1' rounds to suit the level of your own quiz nights. Adding a '5 to 1' round to your quizzes has never been easier. Our '5 to 1' quizzes are just that. Five points if you get the answer correct with the first clue, down to a sliding scale of one point. Our quizzes can also be played with friends using pen and paper and turning their answer sheets face down when they know (or think they know) the answer. Of course, if they turn it face down after round one, etc. and get it wrong, that's zero points! As with all our books the answers are never too far from the questions, but not too close to spoil things - we hate flipping page after page for answers.

Three men are off from Coatbridge to Cucuruzzu, Italy, to do some construction work in a monastery in exchange for a holiday ('grub and a bed - that's the deal'). Some holiday it turns out to be, what with optional Mass at five in the morning, a mad monk and the salami fiasco. But even this remote and tranquil mountain cannot offer sanctuary from the past and the story of Jimmy Brogan, a wildly original, broken man. As the run up to Easter Sunday in the monastery becomes more and more farcical, so Jimmy's story builds to a chilling climax - and suddenly the past explodes into the present...

Single Player: Agoraphobes need love, too... by Jamie Nicole (Quirky House Press) 4.5 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 20 hours ago

If you've ever been stuck in life (like really freaking stuck) and in love (like, really freaking in love) with a man who knows you only as your gamer tag (I realize it's sad) then you know how badly Cecilia St. May (her offline friends call her Cee Cee) needs to get a life outside of her Xbox, on account of the fact that he hasn't left her house in 1,095 days. If you're not up for doing the math, that's three years. Not coincidentally, that's also the number of days that have passed since she's been on a date, been kissed, or properly man-handled in any way. Though she spends her days feeling lonely, she's not alone. She has her best friend Ashton, her faithful black lab, Master Chief, and most importantly, her Xbox. CeeCee (aka PrettyPanties to her online gamer friends) is quite the badass in the high-paced, high friction, alien-killing, Nazi-shooting world of gaming, and she's finally caught the attention of her one and only cyber crush, MrNotSoSmall@All. Maybe with just the right push and a much-needed sense of humor, she can finally break free from her fear and live the life her father dreamed for her, the life she knows she deserves to live. Game on!

Drunk on a Plane: The Misadventures of a Drunk in Paradise: Book 1 by Zane Mitchell (New Island Press) 4.4 Stars (193 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

So, I'm Drunk. Daniel T. Drunk, Jr. if you really wanna know. And I'm on a plane headed to Paradise Isle on the trip of a lifetime. The occasion? My honeymoon. Except, there's only one problem. I'm riding solo. It's a really long story, and if you don't mind, I'd prefer to leave it at that. Really? You must know? Fine, I get it. You're the nosey type. Here's the abbreviated version. I came within an inch of marrying a cheating slut. There. Get the picture? Good. But that's not what this story is about. This story is about what happened after I got to Paradise and a dead body showed up in my motel room. And, of course, the cops tried to blame it on me. And then the actual murderer decided they wanted me dead too. Fuck. The hits just kept on coming. And to top it all off. This woman started following me around the island, and she couldn't seem to keep her hands off me. But not in a good way. So if you're interested in a bit of Caribbean flavored action and adventure, with a hint of sexual tension, a dash of unapologetic profanity, and a kick-ass ending, then this is your book. If you're looking for the next best piece of literature since - oh, hell, who am I kidding? I don't know shit about good literature. But if that's what you're looking for, then keep moving, cause this ain't that. If, however, you're like me and just looking for a good time, then I'm your fella. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Rated R for language, crude humor, and sexual innuendos. Rated A+ for entertainment value.

Heels and a Tiara: An edgy standalone romantic novella (That Seventies Series) by Andrene Low 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 18 hours ago

Close to being evicted, this Surfer's Paradise Meter Maid needs money, and fast. Lucky for her, he's rolling in it. Not so lucky is the homicidal blonde he's married to doesn't like sharing. Brenda's life isn't easy. Growing up with parents who were as larcenous as they were stupid, she spent her childhood fending for herself and life hasn't changed a whole lot since. Currently without a man gullible enough to fund her lifestyle she's one step away from living on the streets, and it's this that sees her walking the streets as a Surfer's Paradise Meter Maid. The upside of the job is that the gold lamé bikini she wears as a uniform attracts men like moths to a flame. Enter Hilton Taylor, man about town, seemingly rich and definitely gullible. Unfortunately she hasn't even managed to 'top up his meter' when she runs into his wife. Whether it's the pills Hilton's wife pops, or the alcohol she washes them down with, she's Brenda's worst nightmare; and one that could prove fatal. Will Brenda snare Hilton, or will his wife succeed in introducing her to the bumper of that late-model Mercedes she drives? The odds of Brenda surviving, or worse having to get a proper job, aren't looking good. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING: I went into this book knowing it was only a short read. I knew that when I bought it. That doesn't mean that I'm happy about it being so short! GIVE ME MORE! I want more stories about being a meter maid wearing a gold bikini. I want more close calls. I want more disastrous liaisons. Damn it, I wanted this to be a longer book. It's too good to be so short. Funny, nostalgic, but too short... ;) 5-STARS This book was a crack up! It's a good quick read leading into the That Seventies Series, which I will definitely be checking out! It tells the story of Brenda, a gold-lame bikini clad meter maid who wants the good life. She has an interesting way of going about obtaining that, but it makes for a great story! A married man, a wife who doesn't like to share, ...

From Russia, With Love: My emails to internet scammers (and other stories) by Howard Hockin 4.1 Stars (15 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

It started with a ping. An email from a woman named Tatiana, confessing true love. It all sounded rather suspicious - she could, to be honest, do a lot better. But she had beaten my email firewall, so fair do's to her. It would have been rude not to, really. Amazingly she replied back to me, and we spoke for many weeks. It seemed I had found my true love, helped by me pretending to be Geoffrey out of Rainbow. But then, as I chronicled my travels round Russia to find her, she stopped writing. But never mind, because along came Alina. Of course true love is not cheap, so I was soon conversing with the odd Nigerian prince and Zimbabwean refugee who just happened to require my assistance in dealing with many millions of US dollars. What follows is my journey to find true love and a nice nest-egg as alter-ego Harold Bishop. A story of love, lust, betrayal and copious amounts of badminton.

Hand In The Till (The Derry Women Series Book 2) by Gerald Hansen (Mint Books) 3.6 Stars (41 Reviews)    Price verified 18 hours ago

"Continued brilliance. The characters will make you laugh and cry and fume while you're reading. Comic Irish writing at its best." Colin Quinn NOTE: Although this book is part of the DERRY WOMEN SERIES, there is no cliffhanger. It is true that the characters get older as the series progresses, but each book is a complete story, and can be enjoyed without having read the previous book. For those of you who prefer a gentler reading experience, a PG version of this book is also available here on Amazon.

Devil in the Dock: A Short Satire by P.A. Rudders (PenWrite Publishing) 5.0 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

This is a 7,500-word short story satire examining the Christian religion, specifically the history and background of Jesus, the gospels, and the supposed miracles and supernatural mythology of the time. The writing is intended to be darkly humorous, and to some extent, quite mocking/scathing in the tone and approach it takes with the subject matter. The story takes the form of putting the devil, Satan, on trial for all his evil wrong-doings. In Satan's defence, a number of witnesses are called, namely many of the great free-thinkers throughout history, who systematically discredit much of the mythology and fantastical claims of the Bible and the Christian religion. Amid the judicial proceedings, there are a number of exchanges between the Devil, God's court representative St. Augustine, and several notable characters from history. Warning: This story/satire is written from the viewpoint of an atheist. There is no deliberate intention to shock or offend those of the Christian faith or belief, so with that in mind, please be aware this satire contains material that some people so minded may find disagreeable or offensive.

FLOODED (BEAUTIFUL BUT STRANGE Book 1) by J. J. Sorel 3.8 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 21 hours ago

Yes, I admit it. I chained myself to his pole. A STEAMY ROMANTIC COMEDY FREE ON KINDLE UNLIMITED I'm talking about the ancient oak tree his firm was going to chop down. Get your mind out of the gutter. That's how I met Sam Chalmer, the gorgeous only son of tycoon Carrington Chalmer. His company had plans to fell this beautiful old tree on behalf of a silent partner, and I wasn't about to let it happen without a fight. Even though it was tempting to just give in. I was thoroughly enjoying the idea of being at Sam's mercy while he figured out just what to do with me -- until the area started to flood and I realized I had lost the key to unlock myself. This may have started as an environmental statement, but it's clear we're both in over our heads... Sam There I was, avoiding my father's typical patriarchal machinations and minding my own business, when I found out that Juniper Berry, an aptly-named daughter of genuine hippies, had chained herself to a tree my company was going to cut down. I had plenty of ideas how to turn Juni's playful taunting to my advantage, seeing as she was literally chained to a tree in front of me, her body on full display. None of them involved nearly drowning or a boat rescue. Now things are even more complicated: I'm falling for a literal tree-hugger when I'm supposed to be heiress hunting and managing a big business deal -- and it's all because I made a promise to save that damn oak tree. I'm never underestimating foliage again. AUTHOR'S NOTE: There are a few steamy sex scenes in this enemy-to-lovers romantic comedy. For those who have read Thornhill Trilogy and are curious about the Thornhills four years later, they make an appearance in this story when Sam moves from San Francisco to Malibu and they become neighbors.

B*tch, F*cking Love Yourself by S.P.B Berry 4.6 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 11 minutes ago

This book is all about spreading positivity and promotion of self love. And let's be frank, I'm not an expert, or a master at self love. Think of this book as friendly advice, you can take it or leave it! No hurt feelings here. I don't think anyone truly is an expert at self love. But let's talk about it. Let's work at it and fail, then try again. Let's have enough self love to love others. Let's be courageous enough to practice self reflection and true honesty with ourselves. It's really f*cking hard to do. There is enough bullsh*t in this world. My challenge to you, reader, is to work on making your own world brighter. To make your world so blinding that it radiates out. Make your world bright enough for others to bathe in it, be inspired by you and do better themselves. Now, if you haven't already noticed, this book has foul language and it's a bit aggressive. It's aggressive in a good way though. It's like when your partner chokes you in bed, the right way. And gives you an orgasm that makes your eyes roll to the back of your head and your legs quake. You know? That kind. Except i'll cuddle you afterwards. Open this book after a long, stressful day. Open this book when you want to cry at your job because it's unfulfilling, when you can't stand the sight of yourself in the mirror. Open this book when you are heart broken, anxiety ridden and depressed. When you don't feel like you are enough, open this book and let me shower you with kindness, acceptance and positivity. Because reader, I want you to love yourself. I don't want you to feel alone. I want you to live your dreams, have happiness, fulfillment and get eight hours of sleep. Let me add the topper to this ice cream sundae of goodness. This book isn't long, boring, preachy or philosophical. I promise I'm not like the others, I won't waste your time. So if you dare, read on.

Gringo Africano: A White African Volunteers in Latin America by Johnny Fox 5.0 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

Part insider critique of the volunteer tourism industry, part chilling memoir of six months spent in the company of the incompetent and insane, "Gringo Africano" is an adaptation and expansion of a blog the author kept whilst managing a volunteer project in rural Latin America. Initially begun as an effort to stay in touch with friends and family, it quickly developed into his only means to vent and reflect on the ineptitude, hypocrisy, absurdity and futility at the core of the group's efforts to help at-risk young adults steer clear of gang life. Often hilarious, occasionally insightful and relentlessly vicious, "Gringo Africano" draws back the curtain of propaganda surrounding volunteering and volunteers and cuts through the veneer of smug self-satisfaction to reveal the ineffective performance art that is the reality. A Latin Heart of Darkness... but with no river and more hate-filled ignorance. A portion of the proceeds from this book will go toward funding youth theatre in the community.

Loaded Dice (My Storytelling Guides Book 4) by Aron Christensen (Loose Leaf Stories) 3.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 58 minutes ago

Collected advice on running and playing from The RPGuide I've been running role-playing games for thirty years, but am relatively new to playing them. Erica's rolled up dozens of characters, but has only a few Storytelling experiences under her belt. Together, we've written a blog about what we learned, the challenges we have to overcome, and all the solutions we've come up with to keep an RPG campaign going - The RPGuide. This is a collection of our best and favorite articles from the last year of RPGuide posts. We've got advice for handling players, building NPCs, and we debate rules and play styles. If you're an old hand at role-playing, maybe you'll find a new trick to put up your sleeve, or a fresh way of looking at gaming. And if you're new to RPGs, then you're welcome to learn from our mistakes and take advantage of our experience. You've probably read My Guide to RPG Storytelling, the Companion, or maybe From Dream to Dice, and that's what brought you around to this little collection. But if this is your first RPGuidebook, welcome! Don't worry, you don't need to read any of the others first - Loaded Dice can be used on its own. We'll even begin with a "What the heck is a table-top role-playing game?" chapter. So let's play!
